REIMAGINE RETAIL

REIMAGINE RETAIL is funded through a $10.9 million grant from the Walmart Foundation made to the Chicago Cook County Workforce Partnership. The two-year initiative aims to increase the economic mobility of workers in the retail and related sectors and is the largest investment to date as part of Walmart and the Walmart Foundation’s Opportunity Initiative. This program effort works with nonprofits, educational institutions and government agencies to make it easier for people to advance more quickly in the retail sector. GRAND OPENING
The Nov. 29 opening of the Chicagoland Retail Sector Center, funded by a grant from the Walmart Foundation to the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, will enable frontline workers to move faster into better-paying midlevel positions through no-cost training and employment services. The launch will be attended by local officials, business leaders and program participants, in addition to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Kathleen McLaughlin, president of the Walmart Foundation and chief sustainability officer for Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The Chicagoland Retail Sector Center is the latest step in an effort to increase economic mobility of workers in retail and adjacent sectors in the U.S. In March, The Partnership received a $10.9 million grant from the Walmart Foundation to help Workforce Development Boards both around the country and locally provide education and employment services for retail workers.

“I am pleased the Chicagoland Retail Sector Center is launching and grateful for the grant received from the Walmart Foundation to support this effort,” said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. “This center will provide Cook County residents with the skill set needed for today’s jobs in the retail industry.”

As part of the $10.9 million grant, The Partnership allocated funding to open the Chicagoland Retail Sector Center, introducing businesses to no-cost services that will aim to increase economic mobility of workers in retail and adjacent sectors.
